Dear Roark Raiders!
I would like to take this opportunity to introduce myself. My name is Stephanie Ann Lee, and I am excited to be the next principal of Roark Elementary. I live in Ovilla with my husband Henry and two children, Jesyka and Jordan, and we are delighted to be a part of the Roark School Family!
Upon my arrival on July 21, I plan on getting to know the building, the school’s community, bring myself up to date on Roark’s campus improvement goals, and hear about what makes Roark such a unique and special place. I have already heard that Roark is a school where strong connections are made between the home and school and where all staff members are committed to developing the whole child. I value these qualities and am very excited to help continue moving Roark along the path to excellence. I am also very eager to get to know each and every one of you and our students!
Professionally, I have been an educator in Irving ISD for 15 years – 5 years as a teacher, 3 years as an assistant principal, and 5 years as a principal (both in early childhood and elementary). I am beginning my third year in a doctoral cohort with Dallas Baptist University, and I will have the privilege of spending July 5-12 in a summer class in Washington D.C. so I should have many photos to share when we return. During my years as an educator in Irving ISD, I spent a great deal of time working on curriculum writing teams, serving on campus improvement committees, presenting in district trainings, and I even had the wonderful privilege of attending a week long principal leadership academy at Harvard University in 2011.
Personally, I am an only child who grew up in a single parent household. My mother was and continues to be my role model because of the strong foundation she established for me as a single parent. I was the first to graduate from college in my family so it is with extreme gratitude and honor that I will receive my doctorate in Educational Leadership in May 2016. I will celebrate 17 years of marriage to my wonderful husband Henry on August 30, 2014. My daughter Jesyka will be a sophomore at Red Oak High School this year and she is very athletic. She is a point guard for North Texas Strive AAU basketball league so most of our family time is spent watching her play in local and long distant tournaments. My son will be a 7th grader at Red Oak Jr. High, and he is the exact opposite of my daughter. He would much rather spend his time reading a book or playing a video game.
One of the most important aspects of my work as Roark’s principal is building relationships with students, families, and staff. It will be very important to me to be present in the hallways, classrooms, and on the playground getting to know our students. I feel honored to follow Ms. Tucker as the principal of Roark Elementary School, and I will be in touch with her so that we can make this a very smooth transition for students, staff, and families. Roark is a school that has many things to be proud of, and I thank you in advance for welcoming me as part of this great community! I look forward to working alongside you!
