Welcome to Arlington High School! Home of the Colts! How sweet it is to be in colt country!

PAL

PAL stands for Peer Assistance and Leadership. Selected juniors and seniors, who have completed an application and interview, mentor at elementary schools and serve in the community and schools.

A Week in the Life of a PAL

Monday or Tuesday
Mentor one-on-one at the elementary schools, where the PALs do activities that build self-esteem and instill life skills

Wednesday or Thursday
In-class preparing for school visits, working on service projects, and participating in teambuilding activities

Friday
Lend a Hand Fridays- PALs work in pairs or groups to mentor elementary school classes in one of two programs:

GOALS-Guiding Others to Achieve Lifelong Skills
PALs read a story that teaches a life skill and do an activity to reinforce the skill. The students that participate in this program take a field trip to Arlington High in May. During their field trip, students visit classes and programs that are offered at AHS, such as Agriculture, Fine Arts, and Science and Technology. Students get their picture taken in a cap and gown to remind them that their ultimate goal is to graduate from high school.

PYPM- Protecting You, Protecting Me
This program is a MADD sponsored, alcohol prevention program. Developed from scientific research, PYPM consists of 8 lessons that focus on how the brain develops, how the brain can be protected, and how alcohol affects the brain. The PALs teach these lessons, in addition to lessons that focus on being respectful, choosing good friends, and making good choices.

Students in PALs gain experience in working with others, serving the community, and building healthy relationships. Committed to living a healthy lifestyle, PALs are positive role models in the school and community.
