Welcome

Dear Parents/Guardians,

Welcome to Algebra 1!  This is my third year at Martin High School, but my 17th year to teach in Arlington.  I was born and raised in Arlington.  I attended Arlington High School, and graduated from UTA with a BS in Economics.  I also have a Masters in counseling from the University of North Texas.  I have been married for 22 years and I have 2 wonderful children.  I enjoy cooking, running and watching my children at their different events.

I am confident that we will have an excellent year at Martin High School.  Be assured that I will do all I can to make this a successful year for my students.  Algebra 1 will place emphasis on the application of techniques in problem solving, the concepts of relation and functions, and the skill essential to the study of mathematics, such as graphing, factoring, and solving linear and quadratic equations.  Mathematics is like a set of building blocks.  It builds on previous knowledge and if my students don’t have a good foundation, they will not be well-prepared for future math courses.

This year will be spent preparing my students for those future math courses as well as the TAKS test.
