Life lessons in the snow
Monday, December 07, 2009

When it snowed on the morning of December 2nd, Sixth Grade teacher Mrs. Fenoglio did not let it slow her down! She took the students out for a short, brisk walk and pieces of black construction paper on which to capture fallen snowflakes.  She then explained that each snowflake is different yet beautiful, just like each of the students.

Rotary Club of South Arlington donates dictionaries

Members of the Rotary Club of South Arlington recently visited Ashworth Elementary School to donate dictionaries to Third Grade students.    Rotarian Joe Way (back row, left) told students about using a nightlight and reading the dictionary cover to cover when he was a third grade student and encouraged the students to get read their dictionaries whenever they had a chance.  Rotarians Tyson Eubanks and  Josue Munoz  (back row, middle)  pointed out some of the more interesting aspects of the dictionaries such as maps and the longest word in the English language.  The Rotarians are shown here with Mrs. Chavez (back row, right) and her class of delighted third grade students. The Rotary Club of South Arlington distributed the dictionaries as part of the Dictionary Project, through which they will be giving dictionaries to every third grade student in a school that feeds into Juan Seguin High School.

Congratulations Ashworth on your 4th Consecutive TBEC Award!
Monday, November 09, 2009

Ashworth Elementary has once again been named to the Texas Business and Education Coalition (TBEC) Honor Roll of the best schools in Texas!  This is the fourth year in a row that Ashworth has received this honor. TBEC identifies Honor Roll schools by analyzing three years of performance data for every public school in Texas. A TBEC Honor Roll school must have a high percentage of students meeting state standards on every TAKS test for three consecutive years.
