Dads' Outreach

The Dads' Outreach Liaison supports and encourages dads' involvement in Title 1 schools.  Father involvement is very important in a child's education because, according to the U.S. Department of Education, children whose fathers take an active role in their education are:

  • More likely to make A's
  • More likely to enjoy school
  • More likley to be involved in extracurricular activities
  • Less likely to have discipline problems
  • Less likely to repeat a grade

Dads can influence their children's education in many ways, either through volunteering in the classroom, participating in father/child events, or reading with their child.  Reading is the way a father can have the most profound influence on their child(ren)'s education.  Just 15 to 30 minutes a night spent reading together helps build stronger bonds between father and child.

*Dad is used in this case to include any positive, adult male role model in a child's life.  This can include, but is not limited to, fathers, uncles, grandfathers, step-fathers, or cousins.
