Energy Management Overview

The single most expensive commodity purchased by the AISD is energy. It is our goal, in fact our charge, to consume energy as efficiently as is possible without creating a negative impact on the learning environment.  We as a district can only succeed by involving all of the students, faculty, staff, and administration in our energy conservation efforts.

The Plant Services department is responsible for developing and implementing guidelines to manage our consumption of electricity, natural gas and water. A major tool is the  computerized Energy Management System (EMS). This system permits us to monitor and control the air conditioning systems in the majority of the district's facilities.

It is not our intent to adversly affect the indoor environment or personal health of our customers.   Use all the energy you need, but do not waste it.  Remember, no reduction in energy use is too small to capture, so please when possible, turn off lights; close exterior doors and windows; turn off computers, printers, and office equipment when they are not needed; and report water leaks and dripping faucets to the Plant Services Department.

If you have any questions or ideas at any time, please contact the Energy Manager using the information at the top of the page.

After-Hours Heating / Cooling Requests

The heating, ventilating, and air conditioning (HVAC) systems are scheduled to operate in the schools on all regular school days, and in the administrative offices on all regular business days.  These systems normally operate approximately one hour before and one-half hour after occupied times.

Requests for HVAC operation for all after-hour, weekend, or holiday events must be submitted via the intranet for review a minimum of 48 hours prior to the scheduled event.

If appropriate, a completed Rental Agreement must be on file prior to the scheduling of the HVAC systems for after-hour events.

Please note, the HVAC systems are scheduled off, except in extreme ambient conditions, on all weekends and holidays unless prior arrangements have been completed.

The Dealing's Done! Savings of $2.8 Million!

The administration has been working diligently for months on securing a more advantageous electricity contract.  Our current contract will not expire until January 2013, but in order to take advantage of record-low prices, the district chose to lock in a rate now.  AISD secured a 2-year contract that will save $2.8 million dollars per year starting in 2013.  Thank you to the administrative team for all of your hard work!  It will be paying off soon.
