Open House

Open House on Tuesday, September 7th!

Patriot families,

We'll observe the schedule below for our open house. The PTA meeting will start at 6:30 pm, then at the conclusion of the meeting, it's time to follow your student's schedule. Our counselors, Mr. Pulver and Miss Walker, will be in the office distributing student schedules, in the off chance that your child can't recall where he/she is supposed to go (selective amnesia). Our teachers will speak briefly on the structure and goals for their classes, and you'll find out how to best contact the teacher for future communication.

*Some student attend a zero hour class at Shack. Parents can meet with those teachers at 6:50 - 6:55.

    1st pd.  7:00 - 7:05

    2nd pd. 7:10 - 7:15

    3rd pd.  7:20 - 7:25

    4th pd.  7:30 - 7:35

    5th pd.  7:40 - 7:45

    6th pd.  7:50 - 7:55

    7th pd.  8:00 - 8:05

We look forward to seeing y'all Tuesday night!

Parent Access to Student Grades

The TEAMS student system includes a module called Parent Self Serve.  This module allows parents to register to view grade and attendance information about their children. If a parent's contact information is entered consistently, the parent will be able to use one user ID to view information for all of their enrolled students. This is a change from the Intouch system that was used in the past.

To allow staff time to enroll all students and to enter contact information in the system, AISD will implement the Parent Self Serve module at the end of the first six weeks.  The system will require parents to register online and be validated in person at the campus before receiving an ID and password.  We will provide additional information about this process as soon as possible.

Patriot Families,

Patriot Families,

Welcome seventh graders and welcome back eighth graders! I hope the start of the school year finds everyone well. I know everyone's sufficiently warm! We certainly have a lot going on here at 2000 N. Fielder, and I wanted to take a second to hit some high points.

Seventh grade families,

All will be well. You'll get used to the new schedule and the demands of athletics and fine arts while juggling academics. You are probably going to have more homework than you did in previous years, particularly if you're taking Pre-AP classes. If you stay organized and don't wait till the last minute to get things done, you'll manage well. As a matter of fact, this is the point in your educational journey where you can begin to take charge (and the sooner you do, the more in control you'll feel). Parents, I know it's tough, but let your kids work through this transitional period. Talk with your kids and encourage them, but it's okay for them to feel and respond to the challenge. If you sense that things aren't as they should be, communicate with us (teachers, counselors, administrators), and we'll work through it. We are setting the mold for our seventh graders journey through secondary education, and its incumbent upon us to get them started on the right foot.

8th grade families,

If you were with us last year, you know what we value and expect. The challenge now is to push harder, academically, athletically, etc, and prepare as thoroughly as possible for high school. Come and talk with us if you need assistance. I expect for our eighth graders to be the torchbearers for our seventh graders, illuminating the path scholastically and socially.

I'm looking forward to a terrific year, please don't hesitate to contact us if you have suggestions or concerns, and I'll see you at Shack events!

Andy

Shackweb Changes!

Attention students and parents Shackweb is undergoing a transition.

At the top of the page there is a new tab called "Core Classes".  Under this tab you will find Math, English, History, Science and Reading.  For information or assignments in any of these classes just locate the subject and click on the teacher.  If you are looking for information regarding a class other than those listed above, mouse over the Electives tab.  There you will find the remainder of classes offered here at Shack.

Computerized Calling System

Computerized Calling System!

You should have already received several calls from Shackelford via its automated calling system. Messages are sent out on a regular basis concerning progress reports, report cards, meetings and activities at Shackelford, and other important information. We will be using a new system that uses multiple lines for callouts so all homes being called will be called much more quickly than in the past. This new system can only be used after 4:00 so you will only receive calls in the evening and on weekends. Also, this year, the system does have the ability to delete duplicate phone numbers, so if you have more than one child at Shackelford, you will be called only once. The phone number that will show up on your caller id is 682-867-3600. If you have a call-screening device such as caller ID you may want to let the calls get answered by your answering machine for later playback.

If you find you are missing messages, you might try the following:

1.     Make sure the outgoing message from your answering machine is loud and short. The time between your last word and the “beep” should be as short as possible.
2.     Say “hello” with a loud voice. The machine starts after it both “hears” a voice and then “hears” silence.
3.     Let Shackelford know immediately if your home phone number changes.
4.     If possible, instruct small children not to answer calls from 682-867-3600 in the evening and on weekends. The machine will call again later if no one answers or if a message machine is not present.
5.     And last, if you do not have a screening device, keep a pen and paper by the phone and instruct whoever answers to write down what the message is about. If all else fails, you can call Shackelford and the main office receptionists will have a copy of any message for a day or two.

The new system has the ability to call any alternate number that is in our data base for you if there is no answer on the phone number you gave Shackelford as your home phone. We will not activate this feature for most messages but may for any very important phone calls that need to go out to small groups of students or households.
