Seventh-Grade Reading
In seventh grade, students take both a reading class and an English class.  In the reading class, the main focus is on literature.  We will be reading several novels, short stories, poetry, and other works.  We will focus on various strategies to improve comprehension.  The class also prepares the students for the seventh grade STAAR test.

 Accelerated Reader (AR)
Under Construction
Accelerated Reader is a program that Bailey implemented in 2005.  Most of the feeder schools to Bailey use this program, so the students are already familiar with it unless they are coming from a school outside of the Bailey cluster.  In Accelerated Reader, books are given a certain number of points depending on their difficulty.  Students read a book, and then they take a short test.  If they pass their test, they are given the number of points that the book they tested for is worth.  Each student is required to have a certain number of points per six weeks.  Students in reglular reading must have 10 points each six weeks.  PreAP reading students are required to have 12 points per six weeks.  This is a test grade.

Make-Up Work
In my room I have a make-up work station.  Students are responsible for picking up their make-up work if they have been absent.  They have one day for each day missed to return their work.  Failure to turn in a missed assignment will result in a zero.  If a student is absent for an extended period of time, we will work out a schedule for turning in make-up work.

Grading
Daily work and homework count one time.  Quizzes count two times.  Tests are counted three times.
