Ms. Karen Saunders
I have been the librarian at Workman since 1991 (more years than you have been alive-huh!). Before coming to Workman I worked in Keller, Ft. Worth, and Waco, Texas. I have also worked in Oklahoma at the Chilocco Indian School, where 99 tribes and 33 states including Alaska were represented. I am from Oklahoma City, Oklahoma. I love my job because I get to combine my love of reading and my love of helping people find the perfect book or information.  I love dogs and live with my 6 year old Chihuahua.  I love to make book trailers. Check some of them out on my home page. I enjoy playing bridge but can't seem to master chess.  Christmas is my favorite time of the year and I never want it to be over or to put away the decorations. I also love to cook and travel. I spent my junior year of highschool in Japan. I have one daughter and one granddaughter and grandson. My granddaughter is going to have a baby boy and I get to be a great grandmother! I love to read. My favorite books are Gone with the Wind and Grapes of Wrath. My favorite young adult books are the series Hunger Games and The Alchemyst. I write poetry but haven't been published yet.

 Welcome
The Workman library is the largest junior high library in A.I.S.D. because  this school used to be Bowie High School. We have over 11,000 books, of which 122 are ebooks you may check out and read on any computer. We also have 32 books on tape called  Playaways. You may check out three books for three weeks at a time. We have 23 student computer workstations for you to use. We subscribe to 17 magazines for you to read in the library. As you can see from our home page, we have many online databases and other online resources free for your use. Passwords and IDs are available from me and your family is encouraged to use them too since they are all online.  I look forward to assisting you in the library and welcome any of your suggestions for new materials. We have a Book Club for both grades that meets during lunch in the library two days in a row every six weeks. We vote on and read a book to discuss.  You may join any time. Your school provides the book and you return it when you are finished reading it. I hope you will come and join us if you want to read the same book with a group of students in your grade.
