Welcome Warriors!
Thank you for taking the time to visit my MHS web site. This year I am teaching preAP English II and AP English IV. While I would like to be able to share my daily syllabus, I adapt each lesson to fit the skill needs of my students, so my syllabus literally changes daily. For questions about what we are reading and writing about currently, please e-mail me at jhamilto@aisd.net.
2011-12 is my thirty-seventh year to teach, and I attribute my enthusiasm for teaching to the tremendous Martin students, faculty, and parents. I began my teaching career at La Vega High School in Waco, Texas, after receiving both my B.A. and M.A. in English from Baylor University. After eight years at La Vega, I came to Arlington, where I taught at Sam Houston High School and the original Bowie High School before coming to Martin in 1985. While I have taught English to all levels in grades 9-12, for the last sixteen years, my concentration has been on the AP level. We at Martin are very proud of our outstanding College Board scores, which are some of the highest in the nation. Last year 90% of my students passed the English Literature exam and 50% made the highest possible scores of 4s or 5s, assuring them of university credit for sophomore college English!
This year I am serving on several inter-department committees and am mentoring other AP English IV teachers in Arlington ISD. I especially enjoy travelling with my husband Eddy (a coach at Boswell High School) and my daughter Hannah, who is a junior at Baylor University. I also love seasonal home decorating, watching SEC college football, and cooking!
