The 2011/12 school year brings with it my 8th year at Bailey JH and my 15th year in education. As a true believer in life-long learning I currently hold a Doctorate in Biblical Studies from Andersonville Theological Seminary; a Master in Educational Leadership, Counseling and Professional Development all from Dallas Baptist University.
Parents, you should know that junior high school is quite different from elementary school. Your student will have 7 to 8 teachers/coaches on a daily basis. While the students do have more freedom they also have more responsibility. Students are held more accountable for their actions both good and bad.
Some advice I would give to a parent of a junior high student includes: Get to know the school and how it differs from the elementary school. Know the names of your student’s teachers. Due to the time constraints on the teachers as well as class sizes utilize email to stay in contact with your student’s teachers. Please understand that very little can change if you wait until the last week of school to address an issue. When in doubt contact us. We are all in this together and we have a united goal of helping your student to be the most successful they can possibly be.
Parents, testing is very important so please know the testing dates and try and schedule appointments on non-testing days. Last, but not least, keep an eye on the Bailey website. Let’s face it, our students aren’t the most informative individuals and there may may be some important info they may forget to give you.
I’m looking forward to meeting with you, working with you and having another great year!
