Alternative Dismissal Procedures and Safety Reminders
2010-2011
Dear Ashworth Parents:
When Texas weather occurs we do not always have a lot of warning! Here are the alternative dismissal procedures Ashworth Elementary will follow for afternoon car pool. This will also include students who walk home.
- Please let us load your child/children in your vehicle as usual. We will continue with the same procedures. DO NOT try to park your car and walk up to the front doors. This slows down the process and blocks the main doorway.
- The Crossing Guard will radio into the building the family/student name. A teacher will then escort the child/family to the waiting vehicle.
- Administration will announce in the building that all walkers may be released from school. Students may be placed in the cafeteria if the weather is not safe. We will hold the students until weather has cleared.
IMPORTANT SAFETY RULES
- DO NOT use cell phones in the car pool lines.
- DO NOT attempt to change lines. Choose a lane and stay in it!
- BE PATIENT – We are working hard to serve your family.
- BE DRIVER FRIENDLY to other drivers.
- DO NOT attempt to pick up your child after 3:00 and expect to get
out of the drive way. I assure you….you will be blocked in!!
- BE on time for dismissal. We clear the parking lot in 10-15 min.
- DRIVE very slow! Including the back of school! The speed limit is 10 miles per hour. During pick up times…..3 miles per hour is recommended!
- We hand deliver all children directly to the appropriate car.
- Do not park and get out of your car in the drive through. This stops the process for all students.
It only takes a second to have a critical accident with a child.
Safety must be first for everyone!
Do not drop your child off at school before 7:30 a.m. Children are being left at the back door as early as 7:00 a.m. This is a huge safety issue! Please, please do not drop off before 7:30a.m. Thank you!
