Exchange Time Guidelines for 2011 - 2012 (Print Icon at Bottom)

Can you explain Exchange Time?
Yes. Exchange Time truly is a way to exchange district-required professional development time for two designated days off during the school year. In order to understand fully the implications, the best framework is to envision those two days as days that could be fixed on the calendar as time that all staff had to be physically present for two 6 hour days of professional development designed by the district. Rather than requiring that, the district elects to allow those hours to be accumulated outside of the work day/week and substituted for days on the calendar.
Who is included?
Teachers, librarians, counselors, diagnosticians, LSSPs, nurses and other campus-level teaching staff are eligible to participate in the
Professional Development Exchange Plan.
What does exchange time allow?
Eligible staff who complete 12 hours of exchange time that meet district criteria will be allowed to "exchange" those 12 hours and be able to be absent from work on October 10 and November 23, 2011 with no penalty.
What are the district criteria?
1. Eligible staff members must accumulate a minimum of 12 hours of exchange time.
      • Two hours of that time are district-designated hours.
          (RtI Behavior Training)
      • Ten additional hours are options approved by principal.
          (See Exchange Form)

2. The 12 hours must be pre-planned, approved by supervisor and documented on the Professional Development Exchange Plan.

3. All hours must be in alignment with Environment, Instruction, or Assessment.

4. Plans must be submitted to the campus principal for signature by Friday, September 2, 2011.

5. All hours must be completed by April 30, 2012.

6. Any staff members who have not completed the 12-hour plan by April 30, 2012, will be deducted pay in six-hour (one day) increments. **
Who is responsible for determining district criteria is met and for approving exchange time hours?
1. Each campus administrator (or department supervisor, if applicable) will be accountable for approving only professional development hours as designated on the Professional Development Exchange Plan.

2. Approved hours must be in alignment with the district focus on areas of Environment, Instruction or Assessment.

3. The principal will provide and/or coordinate with district staff to provide sufficient opportunities for all staff members to complete the individual Professional Development Exchange Plans.
What is non-allowable or does not meet district criteria?
1. Eligible staff members shall not receive compensation of any kind and Professional Development Exchange Time.

2. Training will not be approved which is course specific for college credit, for required training sessions toward alternative certification or course work required for teachers on a deficiency plan.
