TO THE PARENTS OF STUDENTS IN GRADES 7 AND 8

By state law, all students in grades 3 through 11 will participate in a state designed academic skills assessment program. Students in grades 3 through 9 will test in the areas of reading and mathematics, for grades 4 and 7, writing will be included. Also, students in grades 5 will be tested in science and students in grade 8 will be tested in social studies and science. Students in grades 10 and 11 will be tested in English language arts, math, social studies and science. The questions will relate to specific objectives or skills your child is expected to learn by the time he/she is completing that particular grade. Scores and their interpretations will be reported to students and parents when available.

This program is designed to help both the student and the school improve achievement. Getting parental encouragement, receiving adequate sleep the night before, and having a positive and pleasant send-off the morning of the test will help prepare children to do their best.
