Shackweb Changes!

Attention students and parents Shackweb is undergoing a transition. 

At the top of the page there is a new tab called "Core Classes".  Under this tab you will find Math, English, History, Science and Reading.  For information or assignments in any of these classes just locate the subject and click on your or your child's teacher.  If you are looking for information regarding a class other than those listed above, mouse over the Electives tab.  There you will find the remainder of classes offered here at Shack.

We will be reading The Call of the Wild by Jack London during the 2nd 6 weeks.  Students will receive their books on Tuesday, 10-13.  The project for this novel will be work that is self-paced.  If students decide to go for the A contract, they will have to do an oral presentation that includes a costume and prop.  More information will be given to students on this next week. Call Projects are due Thursday, November 12!!!

Call of the Wild Oral Presentations are Nov. 9-13.  Be sure to sign up for a time with Mrs. Price!

Bobby Bragen Essay Contest essay and application due Friday, November 13.

For the week of 11/16/09 - 11/20/09:
 
This week we will be focusing on waves (mainly mechanical and sound waves).
 
On Monday (11/16/09), we start the third six weeks. We will review what we know about transverve and longitudinal waves because...
 
On Tuesday (11/17/09), we will have a QUIZ on mechanical waves. Since it's a quiz, you may use any notes that you have taken, including your vocabulary squares. Pre-AP -- you will be expected to draw AND LABEL both a transverse and longitudinal wave and calculate the wavelength, frequency and speed. 
 
Wednesday (11/18/09), we're starting SOUND WAVES. Yes, there will be some notes, but there will also be an activity (or two) that allow us to process what we've learned
 
Thursday (11/19/09), (Pre-AP) we are going to measure the speed of sound using a lab and talk about the Doppler Effect. The questions from the lab are homework if you do not complete them in class. Academic classes will watch a thunderstorm and figure out the distance from lightning strikes.
 
Friday (11/20/09), Applications of Sound Waves. Notes involving sonar, infrasound, ultrasound, and echolocation. Activity: Draw a cartoon depicting one of the applications of sound waves.
