Bailey Banner
You are here:  Tradition

Colors: Red and white
Mascot: Ram
Population: usually between 800 and 900 students, 60 teachers (counting our nurse and librarian), principal, two counselors, two assistant principals, a security guard, SRO officer, wonderful office personnel, outstanding cafeteria ladies,  dedicated custodial crew, and the occasional mallard family that takes up residence in our courtyard.

Bailey Junior High School is rich in tradition!  From 1968 to the present, Bailey remains simply the best.  Many ex-students choose to send their children here because they know what Bailey stands for....strong in academics, strong in extra-curricular, and a safe place to attend school.  The Bailey Rams are here to stay.

Ousley Junior High, which was housed in the old Arlington High building, was bursting at the seams and a new school was needed.  Land was purchased off Bowen Road on which the new school would be built.  However, the new school would be named Bailey, honoring Joe Bailey, school board member and Arlington businessman. The school opened in the Fall of 1968 and had an enrollment of 1800 students...pretty amazing considering the school was built to max out at 1000 students.  We had five temporary buildings and several floating teachers to accommodate our large enrollment.

L.R. Bebensee was Bailey's first principal, followed by Mary Moore, Mike Reinhardt, John Moore, Jimmy Walker, and Tiffany Benavides.  These leaders  continued to expect only the best from their teachers and students. Bailey remains academically sound.  Arlington ISD's finest are at the helm in our classrooms.  We have a wonderful blend of veteran and just-beginning teachers, which provides stability along with new and fresh ideas.
