Career Cruising - Course Planner

AHS students will register for courses for school year 2010-2011 on the Course Planner section of Career Cruising.  Because Career Cruising is an internet-based program, students can work on their schedules at any computer with internet access.  Counselors will meet with all students in computer labs to assist them in their course selections.  (See calendar for specific dates.)  For students without computer access, all tutors in the Go Center have been trained in Course Planner and are ready to assist students in registering for next year.  The Go Center is located in A106 from 10:30-12:26 and A101 from 12:26-4:00 Monday-Thursday and until 3:00 on Friday.    A PowerPoint presentation and a Word document can be found under the "Documents and Presentations" section explaining how to register for courses in Course Planner.  Please be aware that credits earned are in the process of being updated and may not be accurate until mid-February.

AP Exam Registration

Students may register to take an AP exam from February 1 - February 19. Students should bring their picture ID to the main counseling office before/after school or at lunch. Each exam costs $13.00, and checks may be made out to "AHS Guidance".

Colt Trail Drive--Freshman Orientation Night

The annual Colt Trail Drive will be held at 6:30pm on February 8th.  This is a freshman orientation evening for 8th graders and their parents to introduce them  to everything that Arlington High has to offer!  Students can get information about their elective choices, see the band, orchestra, and choir perform and even learn some of our traditional cheers!  The fun begins at 6:30 pm in the auditorium.  A session will also be held that explains high school credits and how the students will register for their classes for high school.

An information meeting about the IB programme will be held in the library prior to the Trail Drive at 6:00.

Dual Credit Information

Request to Test Forms for dual credit must be turned in by 1/29/10.  Students will be given a test time after school on either February 16th or 17th.  If the accuplacer is passed, applications for TCC will be given at that time.  All TCC applications must be turned in Prior to March 8th.

  • Credit Recovery
Our Credit Recovery program enables students, if accepted, to make up a course failed for a six weeks or a course failed for the semester.  Students work on the computer using the Plato program.  Explanatory packets and credit recovery applications are available through a student’s counselor.
  • Testing Information - TAKS
Students are required to perform satisfactorily on the secondary exit-level assessment instruments for English language arts, mathematics, social studies, and science in order to qualify for a high school diploma.  Students will be required to take TAKS tests based on the official classification given by the school district.
The Texas Education Agency has developed two websites to help students strengthen their academic skills and improve their performance on TAKS tests.  These two websites are:  www.YourStudyGuide.com/Texas and www.texasassessment.com/studyguides.  An alternate website for TAKS tutorials is www.track.uttelecampus.org.
  • Promotion Information
  • To be promoted to the next grade students must have the required number of credits.  Sophomores must have 6 credits, juniors must have 12 credits and seniors must have 18 credits.  Students are only re-classified at the start of each school year.
