Bailey speech department presents "Annie"

Mrs. Garner and Mrs. Wells are extremely proud of the cast and crew of this year's play! Bailey speech students presented "Annie" to a full house on March 6 and 7. The acting was extraordinary; the singing and dancing were phenomenal. The sets created by the art department were amazing. Photos of the cast and crew can be purchased by contacting Mrs. Garner or Mrs. Wells.

2008-2009 Destination Imagination third place winners

The Bailey team, Abby B., Caitlin S., Austin C., and Meredith M., placed third this weekend in the Structure Challenge at the Destination Imagination tournament. Also, Caitlin and Abby won the Magellan Award for completing each challenge category over the past seven years.

2008-2009 All-City Band Members

Congratulations to the Bailey band members who competed against eleven junior high schools to make the all-city band. On January 31, after just eight hours of practice the students performed an outstanding concert at Bowie High School. The students did a magnificent job of representing Bailey Junior High School. We are proud of their hard work and dedication to the Bailey band.

Bailey Teacher of the Year for 2008-2009

Shanda Treviño is willing to go that extra mile for her students. She is always looking for new and creative ways to teach. Her early arrival to school allows her to provide study hall and tutoring for her students who need it. Mrs. Treviño gets to know her students so she is able to help them on a personal level. Working with her AVID classes, her English classes, or the yearbook staff, Mrs. Treviño is always positive and looks for the good in everyone.

Katy Wells is very energetic and works hard to bring out the creativity in her speech students. She is willing to spend as much time as it takes to ensure that her students are prepared and ready to compete. Mrs. Wells is willing to take on projects that will earn money for special activities or for groups who need monetary support. She works very hard to help Bailey stay Simply the Best!

First Place Sweepstakes in 2008-2009 speech tournaments

Congratulations to the Bailey speech and debate team for receiving 1st place Sweepstakes at the Arlington Colt Classic and Martin speech tournaments. These students have worked very hard to prepare themselves for success. Mrs. Garner and Mrs. Wells are extremely proud of all the participants' dedication and hard work. They have once again proven that Bailey Rams are "Simply the Best."

National Junior Honor Society 2008-2009

The Bailey chapter of the National Junior Honor Society inducted 148 students into this year's class, the largest in the district. These students represent citizenship, character, leadership, service to the community and scholarship. Each year students are nominated by their citizenship and cummulative seventh grade year academic averages in order to qualify for membership. Pictured are the officers for 2008-2009.

Eighth-grade science teacher Jennifer Cummings is Bailey’s AWARE nominee for 2007-2008. Jennifer is in her fourth year of teaching and is a member of the Quest team. She is very deserving of this honor because she exemplifies those qualities which AWARE embraces. She instills the love of learning as well as a love for science in her students. Jennifer believes in her students and helps them to achieve their goals. She also sponsors the Bailey spirit team.  Congratulations to Miss Cummings!

Roden

Virginia C. Roden is the 2007-2008 Teacher of the Year for Bailey Junior High. Mrs. Roden has been teaching science at Bailey for the past four years. Recently, she developed and started a science club on campus. Mrs. Roden also teaches nature camps for the Lewisville outdoor learning area each summer. Bailey is fortunate to have her on the faculty and is honored to name her the teacher of the year. 

'07-'08 "Grease" plays to standing room only

Bailey speech students presented "Grease" to a sold out crowd February 29 and March first. In the play, Rydell High's spirited class of '59-gum chewing, hot rod loving boys with leather jackets and wise-cracking girls with teased curls and pedal pushers-capture the look and sound of the 1950s in a rollicking musical that salutes the rock 'n' roll era.

Congratulations to Janet Kelly and the recycling team for a first place finish in the AISD recycling competition. During the month of November and December, Bailey recycled over six tons of paper.

'07-'08 Eighth-grade volleyball undefeated in zone play

The eighth-grade A and B teams each went undefeated in zone play defeating Carter, Hutcheson, Gunn, Nichols and Shackelford to win the north zone championship. In the north zone tournament, the Lady Rams defeated Nichols and Gunn to claim the championship and a trip to the city championship match against Boles, the south zone champions.

These Bailey student-athletes had a great season due to their desire, dedication and determination to be the best team they could be. Congratulations on an outstanding season; your leadership, sportsmanship and teamwork were SIMPLY THE BEST!

'07-'08 Twelve Bailey students chosen for All-Region Orchestra

On Saturday, November 3, students from Arlington, HEB and Fort Worth auditioned to be a part of the Junior High All-Region Orchestra.  Of the hundreds of students auditioning, twelve Bailey students were chosen to be a part of this group.  The concert will be on January 26, 2008 at Arlington High School.  Congratulations on this achievement!

 

'07-'08 Speech team takes first place Sweepstakes

The Bailey speech and debate team won first place Sweepstakes at the Arlington High Colt Classic tournament. The students competed in events such as debate, duet acting, humorous interpretation, pantomime, prose, poetry, original oratory and readers' theater. The speech and debate team is currently preparing for the Lamar High School tournament in December. Mrs. Garner and Mrs. Wells are very proud of all of the participants.

'07-'08 RAMS CAN recycle!

The Magazine and Recycling Contest has ended, the race is finished, and ALL Bailey Rams have shown that we can win at recycling! The total number of magazines and catalogs that we recycled was 3,921!  Congratulations to our seventh grade Bailey Rams for winning our school contest with a total of 2,198 magazines and catalogs! The eighth graders gave a Great Challenge with a total of 1,723 magazines and catalogs.

'07-'08 National Junior Honor Society

Membership in the National Junior Honor Society is an honor and a commitment. Qualities for membership include citizenship, character, leadership, scholarship and service to the community. Each year nominees are evaluated by the performance of the cumulative grades and citizenship from the seventh grade school year to be considered for induction at the beginning of the eighth grade year. '07-'08 Bailey Big Mouth Speech and Debate

The eighth grade officers of the Bailey Big Mouth speech club, along with the members, are looking forward to an exciting year. With two tournaments scheduled this fall, they are busy preparing for competition. We are fortunate to have such an exceptional group of students representing Bailey!

Members of the Bailey Big Mouth speech club are excited to participate in the upcoming Arlington Colt Classic tournament held at the end of October.  They are competing in categories such as oratory, duet acting, pantomime, group improvisation, debate and readers' theater.  We are looking forward to an outstanding year in speech and debate. '07-'08 Dr. Cavazos visits Bailey AVID classes

Dr. Cavazos, AISD associate superintendent of instruction, recently spoke with Bailey's AVID students concerning the importance of education and developing a love for learning. AVID is an in-school academic support program that prepares students for college preparatory classes and college eligibility. The students enjoyed Dr. Cavazos’ presentation and appreciate his support of their endeavors!

Bailey Junior High would like to thank AISD Superintendent Mac Bernd, Arlington Mayor Robert Cluck, Council Member Lana Wolff, Bailey Principal Jimmy Walker, Assistant Fire Chief Don Crowson and the many EMTs for bringing the CPaRlington initiative, CPR Anytime, to Bailey. We appreciate the opportunity to learn CPR. We will use the CPR Anytime Kits to share our knowledge of CPR with our families, neighbors and friends.

Bailey really has something to cheer about...Mrs. Carol Culbertson is the Teacher of the Year for 2006-2007. Mrs. Culbertson is the eighth-grade Quest team math teacher and a former Bailey student. She has taught at Bailey for seven years. Good luck to Mrs. Culbertson as she goes on to represent Bailey in the Kiwanis Teacher of the Year competition.

Ron Mills is the seventh-grade Champs Team Texas history teacher. Mr. Mills is known for making history come to life. His students, both past and present, will always do more than just "Remember the Alamo." He was honored by the Daughters of the Republic of Texas at their 2006 state convention.
