The Crossroads project is a collaboration between the AISD Pregnancy Related Services Department, AISD Drop Out Prevention Department and various Arlington organizations dedicated to serve families in Arlington and surrounding areas.
Within this project there are two components:
- Graduation Coaches to serve as academic advisors for eligible students.
- Crossroads Facilitators to work with those students randomly selected to participate in a Teen Pregnancy Prevention initiative.
With funding from the Federal Department of Health and Human Services, Office of Adolescent Health Division, a collaborative agreement will allow AISD to provide said Coaches and Facilitators to work specifically with students eligible for the Crossroads project.
Crossroads eligibility criteria:
- Must be ages 17-19
- Must currently be working with the AISD Drop Out Prevention Department due to a previous drop out experience
- Must be enrolled in an AISD high school and currently off grade level, thus at risk of dropping from school prior to graduation
Eligible students will be randomly selected to participate in Crossroads.
How it works:
Crossroads will challenge at risk students, ages 17-19, to answer the following questions:
“Who am I”,
“Where am I going?”
“Where do I get help?”
Crossroads Facilitators will provide participants with Teen Pregnancy, STD and Dating Violence prevention curriculum which is infused into a three day field trip to include each of the following community partners.
Day One: Camp Thurman
Day Two: Tarrant County College
Day Three: JPS School Based Health Center(s) and Mission Arlington/Mission Metroplex
Crossroads is a rigorous experimental research initiative designed by the University of Texas School of Social Work.
Students may consent or decline participating in the Crossroads project. They may benefit from working with a Graduation Coach whether they consent or decline the Crossroads project.
