The Arlington Independent School District provides special education services to more than 6,000 students annually, approximately 9% of the total district population. All students served with special education supports meet eligibility criteria as students with disabilities. These students require a broad range of services in order to receive an educational benefit from their instruction. Students with disabilities in Arlington vary from birth through 21 years of age, from mildly disabled to moderate, severe and profoundly disabled, from needing minimal services weekly to needing intense services in fully self-contained settings, and from being very willing learners to those whose reluctance to learn must be overcome.
Due to the diversity of student educational needs present among Arlington's students with disabilities, the AISD offers comprehensive special education services designed to meet this unique range of needs.
