Online Resources

Located in the heart of our building, Swift students love to visit the library. Our students can access the
Swift Library daily to check out a book to read. When a student finishes a book, with teacher permission,
that student can return it to the library and check out a new one. This encourages students to keep reading!
Our goal is to meet everyone’s immediate need every time he/she comes to the library. Whether it is a
student who wants a book about dinosaurs or a teacher in need of books to teach a lesson
or a parent in need of new bedtime stories, the Swift Library is the place to come!

Classes come to the library to learn and practice how to use a library. Students who learn how to
locate books and information in the Swift Library will quickly be able to figure out how to use any
other library they might visit; Bailey Junior High, Arlington High, UTA, or Arlington Public Library.
Knowing how to use a library is a basic skill we can use all our lives. The Swift Library is “high tech.”
Computer technology has revolutionized how we operate. Students have a personal library number
that allows them to use the library computer system to check out books. The catalog is now on-line,
and our students are becoming experts at using the computers to locate the books that they need.

Developing researching skills is another goal of our Swift students. The Swift Library has
references materials designed with the young learner in mind. Supervised Internet access
supplements our reference section. Students can come to the library either with their class,
in small groups, or individually to do research for an assignment. We’re working to build
lifelong learners. All lessons taught in the library address TEKS skills required for the TAKS Tests.
As Swift strives to improve test scores, the library program is helping our students achieve this.
Research shows that kids who have access to a strong school library program do well on
standardized tests. Kids who read do well in school. Kids who know how to use libraries
and computers to get the information they need do well in life.

We encourage parents to use our library. Come visit the Swift Library anytime and become part of what
we’re doing. Our hours are 8:05 to 3:25, Monday through Friday. We’re glad for you to come by and get a
library number and check out some books, as long as you promise to share them with your kids!
