The word AVID:
Avid adj.: enthusiastic; ardent; characterized by vigorous pursuit [ Latin root is avidus for eager for knowledge]
AVID is a college preparatory program for grades six through

The goal of AVID is to educate the whole student by unifying six important elements of education: students, curriculum, faculty, skills, parents, and community.
The AVID curriculum includes instruction in study skills, organizational skills, communication skills, writing, test-taking strategies, personal development, and team-building.
The Mission of AVID is to:
- Prepare middle and high school students for eligibility and success in four-year colleges and universities.
- Increase college preparation and college awareness on the part of the students.
- Increase academic success of students.
- Increase opportunities for students to enroll in advanced college preparatory courses at the high school level.
- Provide support services for students enrolled in the program.
- Develop and encourage a positive attitude toward high school and higher education on the part of an AVID student.
