Ashworth has been awarded Gold Status for its work on the Positive Behavioral Interventions and Supports (PBIS) Initiative. PBIS seeks to correct negative behaviors by teaching and reinforcing good behaviors. Ashworth Elementary is one of the few schools in the district to receive Gold Status this year.
Ashworth Elementary has spent a lot of time working this year to fine-tune and grow our positive behavior initiatives for our students. Under the leadership of our campus chair, Fourth Grade teacher Pam Barnes, her team that includes Ms. Nelson (Sixth Grade), Ms. Caraway (ABLE), Ms. Christian (Counselor), and Ms. Rohmer (Instructional Specialist), we have seen tremendous growth and recognition of our students’ positive actions.
Ashworth works each year to teach our students to follow the three R’s when making choices about school that include being Respectful, Responsible and Ready to learn. Our students are honored for their actions each six weeks with a campus-wide celebration that includes those students actively following the three R’s each day. This year we also had drawings at the end of both the first and second semester giving out prizes to students who earned the most recognition over the course of the semester including a tablet, tickets to Hawaiian Falls, ice skating passes, and gift cards from local businesses.
Our goal for PBIS is to grow the program by including parents as well and sending home communication about the positives of each student on campus. We are excited for this amazing distinction and the chance to honor our students for the great things they do to make Ashworth an exceptional place to learn and grow.
