Annie Koehler Teacher

My name is Annie Koehler and I have been at Ashworth since it opened in 1996 in one capacity or another. I began as a PTA parent volunteer for my three children. As they got older, I became a substitute teacher. Then, with encouragement from the principal and other staff members, I went through ECAP and became a teacher with an alternative certification because I already had a college degree in Personnel Administration. I began teaching Fourth Grade in December of 2000. I remained in Fourth Grade teaching all subjects until 2008. I was honored as Teacher of the Year in 2007. Then in 2008, I moved to Fifth Grade to teach Language Arts and became Team Leader. Officially, I am in my seventeenth year with the district!  I love teaching students how to read and how to bring the stories they read and write to life.

Personally, I have been married to my husband, Jim, for 32 years. We have a son, Keith, and his wife, Terra, who live in Tyler, Texas and are expecting a baby girl – my first grandchild – in November of 2017. Keith is the Administrator for Colonial Tyler Care Center.  I have twin daughters, Kellie and Katie. Kellie is married to Nick Nilles and works at Farrell Elementary in Arlington as a Second Grade teacher. My daughter, Katie, is not married, lives in Denver, Colorado and is CFO to a nonprofit organization called Purple Door that helps homeless youth escape poverty. All of my children are a product of Ashworth, and I think it is the best elementary school in Arlington!
