Cheryl Horton Teacher

I have spent the majority of my life in the Arlington school district in one capacity or another!  I attended Blanton Elementary, Carter Jr. High and Arlington High School.  I began my career in the Arlington I.S.D. my Senior year in high school as a teaching assistant.  After graduation from high school, I continued to work for six more years as a TA with handicapped students and struggling readers.  During this time, I knew that teaching was my calling!  From there, I attended Tarrant County College and Dallas Baptist University.  In 2004, I graduated from DBU with my Bachelor’s Degree in Arts and Sciences.

My first teaching job began in 2005 at Atherton Elementary in First Grade.  I am now in my thirteenth year as a teacher in which eleven have been here at Ashworth Elementary. I have had the pleasure of teaching Kindergarten, First Grade, Second Grade and Fourth Grade.  I have been a Team Leader  in the First and Fourth Grade.  My certifications include grades PK-6th as well as teaching ESL, and GT students.  In addition, I have had training in Dyslexia as this topic intrigues me.  This year, I will be teaching Kindergarten!

I have been happily married to Dale for 21 years, we have two amazing children.  Brandon is 17 and a senior.  Kaila is eight years old and in 3rd grade.  Dale is an Arlington Police Officer that patrols the south side of Arlington.  When I’m not working; I enjoy going to church, watching soccer, traveling and spending time with my family and friends.

I have served on the Math, Science Fair, and Sunshine committees as well as the  PTA.
