A Leader in Me School

"A Leader in Me School focuses on supporting the Leader in us all. Leadership values and character are taught through the 7 Habits curriculum. Students engage in leadership roles throughout the school, thereby taking ownership of their learning."

MISSION

Bebensee Elementary School will create a student-centered learning environment with opportunities that guide our students to develop into productive leaders ready for life-long success.

VISION

Bebensee Elementary School is a community of learners who recognizes, honors and celebrates the Leader within us all; a place where "we grow leaders."

History

Bebensee Elementary School was named after  L. R. "Ben" Bebensee. His high school math teacher and basketball coach inspired his career in education. "He was instrumental in my getting into education," Bebensee said. "I want to be like him. I didn't have a father, so I just clamped onto him." Bebensee graduated from SMU with a B.S. in Physical Education and an M.Ed. in Education Administration.

Mr. Bebensee retired in 1985 after spending his entire 36-year education career in the Arlington ISD. His career included 13 years as principal of Ousley Junior High and 17 years as the principal of Bailey Junior High.

Bebensee Elementary opened in 1988.
