First Grade News
What a wonderful start to this school year! First grade has been busy learning about our school and ourselves. We have explored the five senses, conducting experiments and recording what we discover about the world around us in our science journals.
We spend our mornings doing our Daily 5 and Writing Workshop. Some of our favorite books to read right now are those by Robert Munsch and the Skippyjon Jones series. As writers, we have been looking at where authors get their topic ideas from and creating our own writing seeds books with photographs and other ideas in them.
In math we are exploring geometry this second six weeks. We are looking at the features of different two-dimensional shapes and constructing and deconstructing figures. We are also developing as problem solvers as we explore addition and subtraction.
First grade is looking forward to Trick-or-Treating for UNICEF in October as we learn about children in other places and explore Me on the Map.
