Kindergarten

Teachers: Mrs. Lefever, Mrs. Gaines, Mrs. Stavenhagen, and Mrs. Haney
Teacher Assistants: Mrs. Hernandez and Mrs. Martinez
Kindergarten is the place to be this fall! We will begin the year with a theme that your child knows best—himself! Our activities will include lots of name work so that your child can get to know each member of the class and can learn to read each friend’s name as well as he can read his own.
In reading we will be learning 3 different ways to read a book. We will be putting this into practice each day as we work to develop our reading stamina—a word that you will be hearing a lot this year! In writing we will continue with our focus on ourselves and our friends by working on personal narratives from each child’s own life experiences. We will be writing daily, continually working to build our writing stamina. Ask your child frequently how many minutes we are up to in reading and writing!
In math we will spend the first few weeks of school exploring the materials and learning the calendar activities that we will be using throughout the year. Then we will begin to explore the concept of number through various games and activities. For example, five may be represented by the numeral 5, five objects, the word five, or a combination set such as 3 bears and 2 dogs.
In science we will be learning how to ask questions, how to conduct simple descriptive investigations using both our senses and scientific tools, and finally how to communicate our findings to our classmates.
Please plan to attend the Kindergarten Informational Meeting on Tuesday, September 31 at 6:00 pm to learn more about what is in store for your child this year. We are looking forward to working together to make sure that your child has a wonderful and successful kindergarten year.
