6th Grade Orientation to Athletics Power Point
Student Responsibilities:
1. Be in gym in roll call before tardy bell rings.
Dress Code:
2. Dress in Boles Physical Education Uniform

a. May be purchased for $21.00 per set (1 t-shirt 1 pair of shorts)
b. Shirts will be tucked into shorts.
c. Shorts will not be worn in a “sagging” fashion.
d. Shorts will not be rolled up to become shorter.

3. Athletic shoes and socks will be worn during physical education
4. No jewelry will be worn during physical education classes.
5. Long hair will be tied back (for boys as well as girls), or a head band may be worn to hold hair out of the face.
6. No caps or headwear to be worn during class time.
Procedures:
7. Secure all valuables in assigned locker.
8. Be seated in assigned seat in locker room and ready to leave the locker room with the entire group when the Coach’s whistle sounds.
9. Participate in all activities
10. Remain in the instructional area until dismissed to the blue end line of the gym, then return upstairs to the locker room with the entire group on the coaches whistle.
11. Clean your locker area before the dismissal bell. ALL TOWELS, SHORTS, SHIRTS, SHOES, TRASH, BOOKS, etc. must be picked up at the end of the class time.
12. When dressed, return to assigned locker room seat and remain in the locker room at the end of class until coaches dismiss you, even if the bell rings. A violation of this rule will result in truancy.
13. Respect the rights and property of others.
14. Follow instructions the first time given.
15. LEARN YOUR LOCKER COMBINATION BEFORE THE END OF THE FIRST WEEK OF SCHOOL!!!!!
16. No food, gum, or drinks during class.

Earning Your Physical Education Grade:
1. Academic Grade = 50% Suiting Out + 50% Cooperative Participation

a. Appropriate dress: Students not suited out in a Boles PE Uniform will receive a deduction of 50 points from the student’s daily grade. They may be given a PE Uniform “loaner” set of clothes to wear for the day but will stay have their grade lowered. If a loaner set is available, the student will be required to dress out in it. Students not wearing appropriate footwear will have their grade reduced 50% as well.

b. Cooperative participation: Non-participation will result in a deduction of 50 points from the student’s daily grade.

2. Citizenship Grade

a. Fulfills responsibilities listed under dress code and procedures.

3. Non-Participation:

a. For medical reasons – will be dealt with on an individual basis

b. A note explaining the student’s conditions signed by the parent will be accepted for 3 days. On the 4th day, or days thereafter, a doctor’s note stating activity restriction will be required.

c. A student with a note will be expected to dress in physical education uniform and do light/mild walking unless otherwise stated.

d. Make-up work for these days may be assigned by the instructor, including reports from the library.

Physical Education Fees:
Arlington I.S.D. requires a towel fee of $24.00 for a full year for all physical education and athletic students. This fee covers the cost of fresh towels, lockers, and locks for each student. This fee is due at registration or the first week of classes. Please make arrangements with the instructor if there is a problem paying this fee the first week of school.
Athletics/P.E. Locker Rooms:
Students enrolled in athletics or PE will be issued a locker in the locker rooms. Students should secure their valuables by placing them in the locker and locking them up. Locker rooms are off limits to students unless they are supervised by an adult.

Behavior in the locker rooms – Horseplay, physical contact, unsafe behavior, theft, harassment, locker checking, slap boxing, pranks, etc. in the locker room are considered serious infractions and will receive appropriate disciplinary consequences upon the first infraction.
