Original Ferguson staff pose for a photo together

May 13, 2015 - Only a few of the original teachers and staff who opened Ferguson Junior High in 2001 remain in 2015. As the school year comes to an end and Ferguson Junior High prepares to close, these teachers and staff are about to say goodbye to a long and proud chapter of their lives. Mercedes Downing, the lead custodian, echoed what all of them feel: “I feel like it’s my home over here.”

They took a moment out of their busy day to get one last photo together and chose to stand under the school’s motto: “Leading by example.”

The veteran group includes teachers Mary Cliborn (music-strings, orchestra), Terri Steinman (English) and Kara Dennick (science), assistant principal Steve Dunn and lead custodian Mercedes Downing. Francisca Izguirre, who works in the kitchen, has also been at the school since 2001, but was not available for the photo.
