AISD’s instrument repair program recruiting new students

Aug. 5, 2016 - The AISD's innovative Instrument Repair program is recruiting new students. Currently housed at Bowie High School but open to all AISD high school students, it will move to the future bond-funded districtwide Fine Arts Center once that facility is constructed.

The Music and Arts instrumental repair class is the first public school/private industry repair class in the country. This class focuses on the repair and restoration of woodwind and brass instruments. Based on curriculum developed by Music and Arts, students have the opportunity to repair instruments in a very hands-on approach with some of the finest equipment and tools in the industry. Students learn the unique properties of wind instruments as well as common repair techniques, including: dent removal, re-padding, cleaning and polishing, among others. This course also helps meet the increasing demand for skilled technicians in the industry.
