Lamar High School’s new culinary labs open

April 11, 2017 - The two new culinary labs at Lamar High School, funded by the 2014 Bond program, are now open and holding classes. Three adjacent classrooms were demolished and then renovated into the two culinary labs. Lamar had been the only AISD high school with only one kitchen.

Nutrition teachers Alyce Monroe, Katy Cantu and Stephanie Cantrell and their students patiently, but anxiously, waited for the construction to wrap up so they could start using the kitchens.

"Being hands on with real equipment is fantastic," Monroe said. "The students have been very patient with our back-up activities. To see them in action leaves me almost speechless because I am so proud of how much they learned as well as how they are stepping up to task in the new kitchens. The rooms are a huge upgrade from the outdated kitchens I taught in last year. Space, equipment, and the updates are more than I imagined."
