Architect presents athletics complex design progress to AISD Board

The architect for the AISD's future athletics complex presented its design progress at the Sept. 7, 2017, board meeting. The design phase is currently at a very high level, developing programming and the general scope of the project.

Watch the presentation, beginning at 1:11:25.

The future facility will include space for wrestling, gymnastics, and swimming and diving. The wrestling space will also be multifunctional, allowing for basketball, volleyball and other activities. That space, along with the natatorium, will include seating for competitions.

The architect, HKS, is also designing the AISD's future fine arts center. The two facilities will be located together and built simultaneously on Division Street in the "Entertainment District" of Arlington, near the Cowboys' and Rangers' stadiums. By sharing the same location and by building both at the same time, the district will save money by leveraging shared scope.

The athletics complex and fine arts center are both scheduled to open in the fall of 2020.
