1. Transportation
- 120 propane buses will be purchased over 5 years to replace high-mileage buses.
- 54 of our buses currently have more than 200,000 miles.
- Propane buses are more environmentally friendly than diesel buses.
- Propane is approximately one-half the cost of diesel after rebates.
2. Fine Arts
- Purchase instruments, equipment and uniforms for all of our schools.
- Funds for instruments and uniforms were cut from last year’s budget and this year's budget due to financial constraints imposed by the state funding system.
- More of our students cannot afford to purchase their own instruments and rent them from AISD.
- Fine arts instrument purchases in recent years have not kept pace with need.
- Many of our current instruments are more than 30 years old.
- Band and orchestra uniforms are on a ten-year replacement cycle.
3. Technology
- Move to a 5-year replacement cycle for technology from an 8-year cycle.
- More than 33% of AISD computers are more than 8-years old.
- Additional computer labs at all levels and classroom projection systems.
4. Facilities
- Package includes the funds for the following:
- 1 new elementary school and additions at 2 elementary schools in east Arlington to relieve over-crowding
- Classroom addition at Lamar High School to reduce the need for 28 temporary clasrooms.
- Expansion of cafeteria at Arlington High School.
- Addition of 2 new science labs at each high school to accommodate the new state mandate that students take four years of science.
- Safety and security additions including security cameras, keyless entry systems, fencing, and sex-offender screening software for all locations.
- Roofing and/or flooring replacement and repairs at 46 schools.
- Mechanical, electrical and plumbing upgrades and replacements at 67 locations.
- Fire alarm system upgrades at 13 schools.
- Site work including drainage work and parking lot repairs at 31 schools.
- Remodeling work to include installation of sports flooring in the gyms of 25 elementary schools.
- Repair of auditorium seating and athletic lockers throughout the District.
5. Property Taxes
- If the bond proposition passes, the Debt Service portion of the tax rate will increase by about 5 cents from 2011 through 2017.
- Property taxes on a $100,000 home will increase about $40 annually, for those 7 years.
- For taxpayers with an over-65 exemption on their homestead exemption, there will be no tax increase as AISD taxes on their homestead are frozen.
6. Early Voting
- Early voting will run October 19th – 30th.
- Registered voters can vote at any polling site in Tarrant County during early voting.
