Christiaan James, a 1999 Bowie graduate, attended Harvard University and graduated with a master's of Middle Eastern Studies/Arabic in June of 2008 after his return duty from Yemen. He accepted a consulting position at Booz Allen Hamilton upon graduation. He has accepted a commission as a Foreign Service Officer with the Department of State and will be assigned to various embassies throughout the world. Related article below. (posted 2008)
Shiloh James Howland graduated from Bowie HS in 1997 and attended Brigham Young University where she majored in geology. She completed her B.S. in 2001. Shiloh obtained a master's of geology in 2003. She is currently working part time as an adjunct professor at Utah Valley University and Rasmussen College.(posted 2008)
Bowie graduate, David Follett, is currently seriving in Kandahar, Afghanistan. The Bowie Family wishes David a safe return and are proud of his service to our country. (posted June 2008)
Andy Branca, class of 2003, graduated from the University of Texas at Arlington with a Bachelors of Liberal Arts in Journalism. Branca also double majored in policital science and criminal justice. He is currently working for the Waxahachie Daily Light newspaper covering Waxahachie city government and Ellis County government. (posted June 2008)
C. J. (Christopher) West, 2000 Bowie graduate lost his life while fighting in Iraq. C. J. grew up in Arlington and attended Atherton Elementary School, Hutcheson Junior High, Sam Houston, and transferred to Bowie in 1997. His sister, Cameron, a year younger than C. J. also graduted from Bowie. C. J. attended Texas A & M University graduating in 2004. C. J. decided last year to join to army and had only been in Iraq for four months. C. J.'s financee is also stationed in Iraq. The Bowie Family is saddened by this loss and our thoughts and prayers are with the family. (posted February 2008)
Savannah Armstrong, Class of 2001, recently ended a summer internship and MTV television series, Miss Seventeen. Savannah spent the summer in New York working with Seventeen Magazine while taping the reality television series. Savannah also competed in the Miss Texas Scholarship Pageant since graduating from Bowie. She was named Miss Tarrant County 2003 and Miss Ellis County 2005. After returning home, Savannah has become a first grade teacher in Frisco ISD and has returned to school to pursue her Masters of Education to become an Elementary School Principal. (posted 2007)
Cedric Billups, a 2001Bowie graduate attended SMU playing football and is presently in line to graduate from UTA with a degree in Sports medicine and Exercise Science May 2008. (posted 2007)
Darrian Billups, a 2002 Bowie graduate attended Jackson State University and Langston University. Darrian will graduated in December 2007 with a degree in Radio, TV, Broadcast. Both brothers played football for Bowie High School under Coach Anthony Criss. (posted 2007)

freshman Secrett Anderson has stepped into an effective starting
role for the Lady Rattlers this season. Anderson is averaging
8.5 points and 5.2 rebounds per game this season."

Joanne Jones,
a freshman from Arlington class of 2006, helped the Tarleton
State TexAnns improve to 7-2 overall and 2-0 in the Lone
Star Conference South Division on the season while the Mustangs
fell to 7-5, 0-2.

Jones, 2007 graduate, completed
his Boy Scout Eagle Project this summer by pouring a 32-foot
sidewalk at Barnett JH. The lack of a sidewalk
from the band hall to the main sidewalk had previously made
it difficult to move instruments in and out of the building. Great

Congratulations
to Bowie Graduate V. Terrell who was honored as a Kohl's Kids
Who Care® 2006 National Winner! Terrell was awarded a $5,000
scholarship toward his post-secondary education at The University
of Texas at Austin."As a straight-A student and active
high schooler, Terrell realized that there were many younger
students within his community that needed help academically
as well as guidance and mentoring from someone they could trust.
Since 2004, Vempre has been volunteering 30 hours a week, tutoring
kids in English, algebra and chemistry. He also counsels and
mentors children, focusing on issues such as resisting peer
pressure and alcoholism. Terrell is an inspiration to the kids
that he helps and always goes the extra mile to ensure that

S. Obayangban, 2005 graduate is attending
UTA as a biology/premed major. While attending Bowie, Obayangban
took every AP course that was offered and graduated number
10 in the class. Obayangban plans on sitting for the MCAT
in April of next year and will apply for medical school the
next summer. Her plan is to become a pediatrician. Obayangban
is thankful for such a great education that she received
at Bowie and wishes to thank all the great teachers for helping

Zia
Ali, class of 2003 is currently attending Northwood University
in Cedar Hill. Ali is majoring in Entrepreneurship/Business
Management and minoring in Marketing. He will gradute in 2006.
Ali hopes to pursue a career in teaching and wishes to enter
the 2006 Major League Soccer Draft. He has also begin working
on his book on religious philosophy. (posted 2006)

Chad
Hill, class of 2004 is currently stationed in Aviano
Air Base in Italy. Hill graduated from BHS, joined the Air
Force and graduated from comptroller school. He is currently
working as an accounting liason official. Hill married Cellise
Yvette Turner, also a Bowie graduate and both now live in
Italy. Hill is the holding the promotion certificate

Daniel
Gaskey, class of 2003 and Derrik
Donavan, class of 2000 have been deployed to Fallujah,
Iraq for 7 months. They are both assigned to the 2nd Marines/2nd
Division Truck Platoon. Travis Muller, class of 2000 will also
be deployed with these young men. If you would like to write

Brandy
Lechtenberg,
class of 2000 was nominated and accepted into the 28th annual edition
of the National Dean's List for 2004-05. She was also inducted into
Kappa Delta Pi, an international Honor Society for Educators and
will serve as vice president this coming year.Brandy is a 4th-8th
Math Education Major at Abilene Christian University. (posted 2006)
Lacy
Collum,
class of 2002 is working at the Sports Podcast Network doing weekly
sports commentaries on the Texas Rangers. Lacy is a fourth year
undergraduate student at the University of California in Davis and
is pursuing a degree in Communications with a minor in French and
English. Upon graduation, Lacy intends to pursue a career in sports
radio broadcast. She will graduate in June of 2006. (posted 2006)
Christiaan

a 1999 graduate was awarded a year long Fulbright Scholarship
to Yemen where he will conduct research. Upon graduating from
Bowie, Christiaan attended Brigham Young University on a Hyrum
Smith scholarship and majored in Middle Eastern Studies/Arabic.
He was awarded a full year fellowship at CASA-Center for Arabic
Studies Abroad-in Cairo, Egypt at the American Unveristy of
Cairo. The Fulbright winners will be announced in June by Secretary
of State Condoleeza Rice in Washington D.C. (posted 2006)
Monique
Humphries, class of 2002 is currently attended
the UNLV majoring in psychology. Monique was
a two-year letterwinner in track for James Bowie High
... holds the school record in the shot put (39 feet)
... helped team to a district championship in 2000. She
recently broke her throw record with a throw of 54' 2.5".
Monique finished the season 13th in the Mountain West

Jay
Castaneda,
class of 1995, has earned a BS in Psychology from The University
of Texas at Austin, his MS from the University of Kentucky and is
currently finishing is PhD in clinical psychology at the University
of Kentucky. Jay is the son of Joe and Eunice Castaneda of Grand

Mary
Ann Mullen,
class of 2004, will graduate from Texas Tech in December 2007 with
a degree in bio-chemistry. Ms. Mullen received an outstanding MCAT
test score of 31. The Texas average is 28. She has been accepted
in to medical school and will attend UT Southwestern, Texas Tech,

Machinist
Mate 3rd Class Nick Mulieri, class
of 2003, graduated from the Navy Nuclear Power Engineering Lab Technician
School on May 6, 2005. Nick is currently assigned to the fast attack
submarine USS La Jolla stationed in Pearl Harbor, Hawaii. (posted 2005)
S.
Bozile, a 2002 Bowie graduate recently graduated from Marine
bootcamp in San Diego. Bozile received special weapons training
at Camp Pendleton in San Diego and will be going to Iraq in July
as a Marine. We are very proud of Shawn's service to our country. (posted 2005)
Ben
Heizer, a 2000
Bowie graduate graduated from Northern Illinois University.
Ben was a champion wrestler while attending Bowie and continued
his wrestling career while at college. He placed 2nd in the NCAA
championships and is only the third wrestler in the Huskie's six
decades of competing to make it to the championship match. Ben
will graduate at the end of this summer and then go to school in
Davenport, Iowa, to become a chiropractor.
Johnathan
Heizer, a 1994 Bowie graduate was
also a former Bowie wrestler. He attended Baylor University and
is now a dentist.

Ben
Stephens, a 1999 Bowie graduate, attended
Rice University with a major in Sports Management. Ben also played
football for the Rice Owls. He was the starter center and was selected
as the MAC First Team Center. In 2001, Ben helped Rice finish with
the second-best rushing average in the country. While in high school,
Ben was a three-year starter and letterman for coach Mike Stovall.
He was selected to all-district his senior year, all-area offensive
lineman his junior year and selected Athlete of the Year in 1999.
In addition to be very talented in football, Ben was a state heavyweight

Bowie
Graduates a Rhodes Scholar
Oluwabusayo Folarin, a 2000 Bowie
graduate was recently chosen as Rhodes Scholar. Oluwabusayo is the
first and only student who has graduated from an Arlington school
to be selected for such a prestigious award. Tope
hopes to be a U.N. ambassador was among 32 U.S. college students
selected as Rhodes Scholars. (Ft.Worth Star Telegram, Nov. 24,
2004) Folarin attends Morehouse College and studies political
science. He will be attending the University of Oxford in England
in October. The faculty and staff at
BOWIE HIGH SCHOOL are very proud of our graduate!!! (posted 2005)
Vernon Wells, a 1997 graduate
from James Bowie recently retired his Bowie Vols Baseball jersey
at a celebration at the high school. This was a big event that brought
in a great deal of positive media attention for our school. Jim
Reeves, the Ft. Worth Star-Telegram sports columnist was the masters
of ceremony. Mike Young, a minor league teammate of Vernon's also
attended along with many of Vernon's high school friends. Upon graduating
from Bowie, Vernon went straight the the baseball minor leagues
and played for the Toronto Blue Jays for five years. (posted 2005)
