Congratulations to T. Crenshaw for being the recipient of the Hank Blaylock Scholarship. This is a $10,000 scholarship given to worthy students with great character, grades and leadership. Ms. Crenshaw is also an AVID student and the first AVID scholarship winner. The Bowie Family is very proud of you!!

Congratulations to Art student Anays Hernandez for placing 3rd in the Nutcracker Poster Contest. M. Nguyen presented Hernandez with a $200 prize. Hernandez is in Mr. Womack's Art I class. Congratultions on a job well done!

B. Rogers, BHS Varsity/Head Cheerleader, cheered in the Macy's Thanksgiving Parade in New York City. Ms. Rogers was also selected to be a part of the Universal Cheerleading Association's cheerleading staff. Ms. Rogers will be a UCA cheerleader traveling across the state teaching other high school cheerleaders various cheers and chants. The Bowie Family is so proud of you! |

The All Area Band Competition was held in Midland, Texas in January. Five Bowie Band students competed at the contest: Athena Doe (French Horn); Dustin King (Oboe); Brett Jones (Oboe); Robert Morganfield (Baritone Sax); and Richard Nguyen (Clarinet). Athena Doe and Dustin King (pictured above) advanced to All State. Congratulations to these band students. |

Congratulations to the Varsity Girls Soccer Team. The team won the Lady Owls Shootout Tournament and went undefeated to take the championship. The goal scorers were: Azia Nicholson (3), Meagan Brown (1), Megan Lanoie (1), Kimberly Soriano (2), Maci Key (1) and Carolina Trejo (1). The goal keeper is Penny Rogers who had 31 saves. The girls soccer coach is Lisa Castillo. |

Congratulations to A. Portis and D. Verna who will be representing Bowie at the state debate competition. The team will debate in the policy event. |

Baseball Signing: Congratulations to Beau Poston and Heath Stuckey who signed with Grayson Community College to play baseball. The head baseball coach is Bill Jenkins. |

The varsity cheerleaders won 1st place in the Regional Cheer Competition. The team received a bid to attend the NHSCC in Orlando, FL at Walt Disney World in February 8-11, 2008. |

Congratulations to J. Tribble for receiving a 2nd place standing in the district Lincoln Douglas Debate UIL contest. Ms. Tribble will represent Bowie at the regional competition in Lubbock. The Bowie Family wishes Ms. Tribble good luck at regionals.
Congratulations to R. Bailey, 12 who was awarded the prestigious Gates Millenimum Scholarship. Mr. Bailey, an IB students at Bowie, plans to attend the University of Missouri in Columbia and study computer and electrical engineering with a minor in international business. The Bowie Family is very proud of Mr. Bailey's success at school and being the first Bowie recipient of this scholarship.
Bowie Theatre's UIL One-Act Cast members received several awards for its production of The Women of Lockerbie. The cast members include Tiffany Cromwell, Kim Nguyen, Jasmine Moore, Matthew Williams, Saira Hernandez, Andre Bradford (All-Star Cast), Veronica Almondovar (All-Star Cast), Rachael Hess (Honorable Mention All-Star Cast), Jennifer Nwene (Honorable Mention All-Star Cast), and Alexandria Antonio (Honorable Mention All-Star Cast).
NATIONAL SIGNING DAY

James Bowie High School had a record number of student athletes sign with various colleges throughout the United States on National Signing Day held February 6. A total of 17 athletes were awarded college scholarships in football and/or soccer. The football athletes are: (in no particular order) Jeremy Davis--Langston University in Oklahoma; Jimmy Ekumah--Montana State; Kip Edwards--University of Missouri; Andre Robinson--University of Idaho; Marcus McGraw--University of Houston; Eric Mebane--Purdue University in Indiana; Mohammed Usman--University of Houston; Spencer Hython--Missouri Valley; Javayle Fields--College of the Siskiyous in California; Roddy Maginot--Rice University; Carlton Cannon--Langston University in Oklahoma; Andre McGee--University of Idaho; Nathan Fears--Alcorn State University in Mississippi; Johnathon Johnson--College of the Siskiyous in CA; Derek Clark--Rice University.
The soccer athletes who signed are: Rachel Hess--Alabama State and Penny Rogers--Colorado School of Mines. The athletes were honored as a signing ceremony held at Bowie. Congratulations to these great athletes and the coaching staff for making such a difference in the lives of the students.

Soccer player, R. Hess signed a full scholarship to South Alabama University Division I school to play soccer. Rachel played soccer for Bowie for 2 years and now plays league soccer. Hess plans on majoring in Communications. |
The Bowie FBLA Chapter Qualifies 17 Members to attend State
The FBLA chapter qualified 17 members for the state conference to be held in April. The members who placed are: 2nd place in Business Ethics--Prita Persaud, Patrawat Samermit, and Mary Nguyen; 3rd place in Business Plan Project--Chan Kang, Minh Tran and Juan Guardiola; 5th place in Business Presentation--Krystal Matoke, Destiny Bennett and Priscilla Banning; 4th place in Business Presentation--Daniel Okungbowa; 4th place in Computer Applications--Lisa Ebrahiem; 1st plce in Computer Applications--Hoang Tran; 2nd place in Desktop Publishing--Jenny Nguyen and Khanh Vu; 1st place in Management Decision Making--Tiffany Pham and Anthony Ho; 1st place in Management Information Systems--Donna Khounvivongsy, Amanda Anonthysene, and Stephanie Loh; 2nd place in Marketing--Jasmine McNichols; 4th place in Public Speaking--Tiffany Jackson; 4th place in Technology Concepts--Young Kwon; and 2nd place in Word Processing 2--Dang Nguyen. | Congratulations to the Special Olympic athletes who competed in the Area 11 Bowling Tournament. Brittany Hala placed 1st and Ashley Rich placed 2nd. Outstanding performances came from newcomers Jackie Vanetta and Jonathan Funes while veterans Destiny Bond and Megan Harper continued to shine. The head special ed olympic coach is Terrence Baugh. |
The Souljahs and Lady Souljahs participated in the Texas Step Show Regional State Qualifiers. The Souljahs easily defeated the male competition and the Lady Souljahs secured their bid to the state championship in the spring. The Lady Souljahs also received 1st place at the 10th Annual Martin High School Step Show Extravaganza. The advisors are Chris Caldwell and Doris Morehead. |

The Bowie Boys Step Team performed in front of more than 5,000 school board members and administrators from across the state at the Texas Association of School Boards Conference in Dallas. The Steppers electrified the crowd with a sampling of the State Championship winning show, The Wizard of OZ. The Steppers also performed the Wizard of Oz show in Austin for the State Board of Education at the Texas Education Agency. The team also won 1st place at the GSU Alumni Step Show competition outperforming the closest competitor by 16 points. Congratulations to Mr. Caldwell and Ms. Morehead and the Team.
