Began playing in the band in 8th grade at Withrow Junior High School.
The school supplied the students with band instruments. Mr. Corey
wanted to play the trombone. There were three boys ahead of him in line
and they each took a trombone. When it was Mr. Corey's turn to pick an
instrument he was told they were out of trombones. Mr. Corey was given
a flute.
For his High School graduation Mr. Corey's parents gave him a solid
silver flute made by the William S. Haynes Company of Boston . "I
played on that flute through my college years, through the war years
and on up to the present time. I still have it. It is the only flute I
have ever owned, and I simply delight in it every time I get it out and
put it together." After School
Joined the United States Army in 1941
Stationed at Camp Wolters in Mineral Wells with the Infantry Band

Each October at the Dean P. Corey Marching Band Spectacular Arlington
Junior and Senior High School marching bands perform at UTA stadium.
The UTA marching band presents the finale. 1985 Dean P. Corey Elementary
In 1985 the Arlington Indpendent School district named the school
at 5200 Kelly Elliot Road after Mr. Corey.
