Tech Prep Plan |

Wouldn't it be nice for a student to get college credit for the courses taken in high school? If this were possible, the student could finish college sooner, and save money too. Wouldn't it be nicer if there were no tuition or fees for this advanced placement credit? It's possible through Tech Prep!
Tech Prep, or technical preparation, is a form of advanced placement credit that emphasizes training in a specific pathway of technical courses while in high school. By taking the correct sequence of courses, a student can begin working on a technical degree while in high school. Tech Prep provides an opportunity for students to develop a six-year degree plan beginning in the ninth grade and continuing through two years of college for an associate's degree. Tech Prep is a process that enables students to develop strong technical skills as well as strong academic skills for the high paying, high skill jobs of the future. Arlington ISD is participating in Tech Prep agreements with Tarrant County College. Various agreements exist in the following TCC Pathways:
Students interested in a Tech Prep Plan need to see a counselor for details about the specific program areas available in each pathway. In addition, a counselor will help the student set up a plan to include the correct sequence of courses for Tech Prep advanced placement credit. Tech Prep is flexible, allowing students to change their plans. Students who sign an intent form and later change their minds do not lose any high school course credit. Although the agreement is with the junior college, students who plan to enter four-year colleges for bachelor degrees may still participate in the Tech Prep process by transferring junior college hours to a four-year college and university. After high school graduation, if students decide not to exercise the Tech Prep agreement with Tarrant County College, they will still meet the requirements for most major colleges and universities in the U.S. |
