Mission Statement

Career and Technology Education offers students an opportunity to identify career goals, determine the education necessary to achieve those goals, and acquire marketable skills which can be used in a career after graduation and/or as a means to support themselves while pursuing further education.

The global marketplace is changing. Employers need individuals with high skills in science, technology, mathematics and communications. Through the Career and Technolgy Education department, the Arlington Independent School District offers an enhanced educational system that prepares students for the future.

The cooperative efforts of educational leaders, business/industry partners and the A+ Arlington initiative (which is a joint effort of the AISD and The Arlington Chamber) work together to create an environment supportive of the lifelong learning process for every student.  This allows students to make a smooth transition from school into high-skill, high-wage positions, and/or higher education pursuits and become successful and productive citizens

To link real-world experiences with academic requirements, the Career and Technology Education Department implements many strategies including:

  • Partnerships with local industries to identify knowledge and skill sets for Career Pathways.
  • Implementing and managing the Career and Technology Program Elements.
  • Following a Career-Based Education Model that combines rigorous academics with real-world application.  The philosophy of this model is to prepare all students with the core knowledge and skills for life-long learning which gives every student the opportunity for a successful future.
  • Articulation with Tarrant County College through Tech Prep Plans.
  • Implementation of SCANS competencies  throughout the curriculum.
The Arlington School District offers six Career Pathways or Concentrations which include specific academic and career and technology coursework. You may wish to read about the career and technology courses offered in each pathway: The broad range of courses offered in each pathway by the Career and Technology Department provide AISD students with the opportunities they need to develop the interests and skills necessary to progress past high school and onto higher education, further training, the military or directly into a career.
