AISD Homeless Program

The program is designed to provide year round developmentally appropriate tutoring, enrichment activities, and support services to Pre-K, elementary, junior high and high school students in transitional living situations. The primary focus of the program is to provide continuity for the learner and a positive experience utilizing instruction and education related activities. SERVICES

  • Identify students who lack permanent housing.
  • Help students enter into the most appropriate program for school success.
  • Refer students and their families to the appropriate community resources for their needs (housing, clothes, food, etc).
  • Encourage good grades and school attendance
  • Help with school enrollment and breakfast/lunch services.
  • Adventure Clubs (after school tutoring and enrichment activities).
  • Serve students in transition who are pregnant and/or parenting a child.
  • Visit families as needed.
  • Help with transportation issues.
  • Encourage college and training programs after high school.
  • Provide tutoring, counseling and social skills programs.
  • Emergency assistance with school supplies and clothing.
  • Scholarships for summer school, driver's education and GED.
  • Help in getting evaluations and information for school programs.
  • Promote parental involvement and participation in family literacy.
