Summer School

A variety of summer school programs are available to meet the academic needs of students at all levels.

We offer summer school programs designed to serve the educational needs of a variety of students. Classes consist of remediation and accelerated curriculum.

Please note: Not all programs are available to all students. Any questions about your child's need for summer school programming should be directed to the guidance counselor on your child's campus.

High School Programs

  • All registration will be held at individual home campuses
  • Session One registration is from 8:30 m. to 1:30 p.m. on June 7 and June 8
  • Session Two registration is from 8:30 m. to 1:30 p.m. on June 28 and June 29

Junior High Programs

Students served by the Extended Year programs are those who are identified as likely to not be promoted to the next grade level for the succeeding year because they do not meet district standards or policies for promotion on the basis of academic achievement or demonstrated proficiency of the subject matter of the course or grade level.

AISD junior high campuses will provide the following free programs for students grade 7 and 8:

SSI (Student Success Initiative) program

Provides remediation for all eighth-grade students that need to retest for reading and math STAAR. Students will receive the instruction and support they need to prepare for summer testing.

EY (Extended Year) program

Provides seventh and eighth graders an opportunity to complete grade recovery in the
online program Edgenuity for promotion.

Important information:

Dates: June 6 through June 19, Monday through Friday

Hours: 7:45 a.m. to 1:30 p.m. Students may leave at 1 p.m. if they are not eating lunch or riding the bus. Students must leave campus if they are not eating lunch; they may not stay on campus.

Transportation: If a student receives busing during the regular school year, he/she will receive free transportation to Extended Year program. Transportation will be provided at designated bus stops. Students receive bus information from the summer administrator.

Lunch: Lunch will be provided the same as during the regular school year. The Summer Food Service Program will feed students free where 50 percent or more of the students on a campus are qualified for free/reduced meals. The district is prepared to start feeding breakfast and lunch on June 6 and go through June 19 at hosting Extended Year program junior high schools.

Locations: The Extended Year program will be held at the traditional junior high campuses with one exception for 2017: Nichols Junior High students will be transported to Shackelford Junior High.
