Last year, the energy savings competition continued to be very successful. The competition ran from October through March and compared to our baseline before the competitions began, resulted in $1,460,619 savings over baseline.
The winners of last year’s competition were:
|#1 High School||Juan Seguin High School|
|#1 Junior High School||Gunn Junior High School|
|#1 Elementary School||Roark - District Champion|
|#2 Elementary School||Jones Elementary School|
|#2 Elementary School||Knox Elementary School|
|#3 Elementary School||Beckham Elementary School|
|#1 Auxiliary Building||Administration Building|
This year, we are making some modifications to the competition as described below to help continue to foster competition and continued results. With one of these being the overall district champion.
There will still be 4 winners District-wide this year, including 1 elementary school, 1 junior high school, 1 high school, and 1 auxiliary building.
This year we will be running 3 separate usage competitions; Thanksgiving week, Winter Break, and Spring Break. The competition this year will be comprised of two components. 50% of the competition will be calculated based on performance, or percentage of electricity consumed compared to the baseline and 50% of the competition will be based on participation.
Performance will be decided on the campus with the most savings compared to the baseline week before the holiday shutdown. Participation will be calculated based on involvement in Energy Committee meetings and participation in campus initiatives to promote energy awareness.
The winning building will get the honor of displaying the Energy Champion Trophy in their building for the next year, in addition to various other prizes donated by local business.
We look forward to doing even more to save energy and positively impact the students at AISD!
