HOMEWORK
Monday - Spelling, Vocabulary, Math
Tuesday - Language Arts, Math
Wednesday - Math
Thursday - Spelling review, Math
*This may vary according to student needs.
Occasionally,
special projects or activities may be required on any night for
any subject. Review sheets in social studies and science will also
be sent home periodically for parents to go over with their child
in preparation for chapter or unit tests.
Accuracy is critical in your child's homework since homework is an opportunity
to practice skills covered in the classroom. Please check over
your child’s homework assignments. Then, initial and date each
assignment after corrections have been made.
Each child is asked to read orally five nights a week to a family member
or other adult for at least 15 minutes. Please note this on
your student's Reading Calendar. The books read during this
time may be included on the Texas Readers List and any other reading
program in which we are taking part.
The school-home connection is very important to a child’s academic
success.

Field Trips
In addition to our class field trip, second-graders go to some other neat places during the school year. Each teacher walks her class up the street to the neighborhood Mr. Jim's Pizza. The children tour the store. This trip would not be complete without a sample! The children are given a quick lesson on how to make a pizza and are then given the opportunity to practice what they have learned. Everyone leaves with a full stomach and a smile on his/her face.
Another tour that we try to
implement annually is our Wetland Walk to Rush Creek. One of our former
Dunn parents, an EPA Wetland Manager, prepares a trail along Rush Creek for
the second-graders to travel. Yellow flags are found along the trail
to indicate special points of interest, such as mysterious holes, trees,
native plants, and signs of flooding. This walk really gets the children
in touch with Mother Nature!
