BandBand class is open to students going into 6th grade at Ellis. Students are given the opportunity to sign up and choose an instrument at the end of their 5th grade year. There is a band camp for beginning students the week before school starts. My goal for the first year of band is to introduce students to playing instruments and give them the foundation they will need for their future years in the band program. We concentrate on learning how to play the instrument, take care of it, and read music. Students will have several performance opportunities throughout the year as well as social activities.
Being in band helps to develop each child's musical abilities and talents. Students in band develop concentration, thinking skills, self-discipline, responsibility, leadership, and team work. They also acquire positive self-esteem through individual and group success. Band provides positive social outlets for developing peer and adult relationships
