Farrell Elementary

MISSION

The mission of Farrell Elementary is to provide an environment in which learning and academic success is achieved by all as measured by individual student goals and state and national standards. Our school will work as a community to promote a positive atmosphere, where relationships are built and nurtured, giving students the encouragement and self-motivation to become thinkers, problem-solvers, and lifelong learners. We are dedicated to maximizing individual potential regardless of socioeconomic status, race or gender through supportive and collaborative bonds between school and community.

VISION

J.M. Farrell Elementary School will function as a child-centered learning environment where students take responsibility for their own learning, where teachers lecture less and direct learning more, where critical thinking skills will replace rote memorization as the primary objective, where students and teachers are encouraged to use their creative abilities, and where the goal is to prepare students for a lifetime of learning and productive citizenship. Decisions will be made in the classroom, the heart of the educational process.

HISTORY

J.M Farrell was a member of the Arlington ISD school board from 1965 to 1980. He was quoted as saying, “one of the most important things a teacher can impart to a student is the desire to learn.”

Dr. Farrell, DVM, whose veterinary practice was on Pioneer Parkway in Arlington, sold his practice in 1990. Farrell Elementary opened in 1989.
