Born and raised in Clinton, MS, Mr. Gilmore earned his Bachelor of Science Degree in Social Work and Master of Education Degree in School Counseling at Mississippi College. Prior to becoming an Assistant Principal at Lamar in 2008, he had over 15 years of experience working with children and families; 8 years of Elementary and Secondary Education experience in various capacities as a School Librarian, School Counselor, Special Education Teacher, and Behavior Interventionist.
Career highlights include:
- Helped design, restructure and implement developmentally appropriate programs with key stakeholders for special needs students. Such programs included, S.W.I.M.S.S. (Successfully Working to Improve My Social Skills) and P.A.S.S. (Preparing for Academic and Social Success)
- Collaborated and performed duties with various community organizations such as Catholic Charities (URM Program), the Baptist Children Village, and Mission Arlington
- Observed and coached teaching staff on classroom management and behavior management strategies
- Co-Founder of GTI Career Discovery, a non-profit organization established to assist individuals with employment and higher educational needs.
As an Arlington resident, educator, father and husband, Mr. Gilmore is committed to helping make Arlington ISD a very special place where children and their families can explore, experience, and learn together.
Mr. Gilmore's varied background represents years of experience in management, research, education, and hands-on work with children and families. This background makes him a strong contributor to the mission of ensuring that Lamar High School will offer rich educational experiences for all who enter its doors.
