Fall Golf Update
10-29-10
It is hard to imagine that the Fall 2010 season has come and gone. The girl's golf team under the watchful eye of new head coach David Amis has had a great fall. Many of the players have had personal best's established. Some have repeatedly broken their best scores. Coach Amis has also seen some younger players rise to the much needed top 5. Graduation created 3 vacancies that need to be filled. Coach Amis has been impressed with the improvement of the youth. Camry Tardy, Lizzie Anderson, and Konnor Lee have been the strength of the top five with Amelia Moxon, Jayme Philp, Jamie Gisburne, and Courtney Bourgeois really improving and challenging the group to become better.
Camry Tardy has had her best of 4 fall seasons at Martin. She stands to become one of Martin's best girl golfers, if not the best. She matched, if not surpassed, all previous Martin Lady golf scores. She and the list of previously mentioned girls have a great work ethic and excellent leadership skills both on and off the course. The Spring season will begin as of the new semester in mid-January. Anyone interested in trying out for the golf team, boys or girls, need to start working out and complete a Martin Trainer approved physical and accompanying paperwork prior to mid-January. Tryouts will be conducted immediately after the start of the spring semester dependent upon weather.
The boy's fall season has also been very good. We have attended several very competitive tournaments, due to course and competition, or both. We have played against last year's state winners and contenders. We have come away with a lot of much needed experience and have caught the eye of many players and coaches. We have only 3 senior boys but they have provided the type of leadership that any coach desires. Ryan Williams, Graham Walker and Ben Piland have led well and we expect their leadership to lead our team to regionals in the spring. We are blessed with a large number of juniors and sophomores. Any one of them seem to be able to beat the others, day in and day out. This competitiveness will only improve our team.
There is also another first for the golf teams. We now have a booster club. It is led by Mr. and Mrs. Anderson, parents of Ms. Lizzie Anderson. I am totally impressed with the work they have done in a short time. It has provided us with new opportunities and greatly improved our team. We encourage anyone that wishes to become involved with Martin Golf, to join the booster club, and attend tournaments and meetings.
