University of Pennsylvania

The University of Pennsylvania, located in Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. The University of Pennsylvania's school for communication majors is one of the best in the country. Students attending this Ivy League school, majoring in communications will learn of contemporary culture, media institutions, and will study the impact and influences of the various disciplines which affect and are affected by communications.

In addition to communications, Penn offers degrees in nursing, business, law, medicine, education, and arts and sciences, which all rank among the top programs in their fields.

Admissions to the University of Pennsylvania are among the most selective in the country. 95.3 percent of the students admitted for Fall 2009 came from the top 19 percent of their high school graduating class and scored an average of 1,440 on the SAT.

The early admission deadline for the University of Pennsylvania is November 1, 2010, while the regular admission deadline is January 1, 2011.

Lamar University

Lamar University offers 63 undergraduate, 47 masters and nine doctoral degree programs. The university has nearly 14,000 students enrolled in five academic colleges--Arts and Sciences, Business, Education and Human Development, Engineering, and Fine Arts and its esteemed college of Communication. Lamar's average class sizes are among the smallest in texas. STudents have ample access to scholarships, undergraduate research and study-abroad programs.

the minimum SAT/ACT scores for Lamar will depend upon a student's class rank. Students with a class rank in the top quarter will need to make an 800 on the SAT or a 17 on the ACT. Students with a class rank in the second, third, or fourth quarter will have a higher SAT/ACT minimum requirement.

The application deadline for Lamar University is August 1st for the fall semester, however, scholarship applications and financial aid must be submitted in the spring.

Syracuse University

Syracuse University's school of public communications allows majors the opportunity to study print journalism, broadcast journalism, and even photography.

The early admission deadline for Syracuse University is November 15, 2010, while the regular admission deadline is January 1, 2011.

Applicants to Syracuse University present a variety of academic and extracurricular credentials and applicants are reviewed on an individual basis to determine admission.

Most students entering Syracuse University have an average GPA of 3.6 and the middle 50 percent of SAT scores ranged from 1610-1890

Texas Christian University

Texas Christian University, located in Fort Worth, Texas, has 117 undergraduate areas of study, 41 master's level programs, and 15 areas of doctoral study. Its school of communication allows students to acquire the interpersonal and public communication skills needed for a career in business, education, or nonprofit organizations.

TCU does not have a certain SAT/ACT score that will guarantee or prevent admission; however, scores should be competitive for admission when accompanied by other criteria.

In addition to the school's application, student applying to TCU must submit an essay, a resume, and counselor and teacher evaluations.

So, juniors, the early admission deadline, which is recommended, is November 1, 2010, while the scholarship deadline is December 15, 2010. The absolute final application deadline to be considered for admission is February 15, 2011.

University of North Carolina

The University of North Carolina, located in Chapel Hill, is the nation's first state public university. UNC is among the leading research universities and is regularly ranked as the best value for academic quality in US public higher education. The department of communication studies offers hundreds of undergraduate majors in interpersonal and organizations communication, media studies and production, performance studies and rhetorical studies.

In addition to a completed essay, students applying to the University of North Carolina must submit a counselor's statement, transcript, a teacher recommendation and essays, one long essay and one short essay.

UNC does not have a certain SAT/ACT score that will guarantee or prevent admission; however, entering freshman SAT scores range from 1220-1410 and ACT scores range from 26-31.

In addition, UNC has a program called the Carolina Covenant program that grants full financial aid, for all four years a student attends school if he/she meets the requirements for financial need.

University of North Texas

The University of North Texas, located in Denton, Texas, offers 97 bachelor's, 101 master's and 48 doctoral degree programs. Its department of communication studies offers bachelor of arts, master of arts, and master of science, all with a major in communication studies.

SAT and ACT admission scores are determined by class rank and can range from a 950 on the SAT or a 20 on the ACT for students ranking in the top quarter to an 1180 on the SATE or a 26 on the ACT for students ranking in the third quarter.

The admissions deadline for fall registration is August 10th, so seniors, there's still time to apply, and juniors, there's plenty of time to get prepared, however, financial aid must be completed early!

In addition, UNT has a program called the Emerald Eagle Scholars program that grants full payment of tuition and fees for four years to students who's annual income does not exceed $40,000.

University of Michigan

The University of Michigan has three campuses with 200 degree programs offered by 12 undergraduate schools an colleges. Its communications studies department is held at its Ann Arbor campus. In addition to an online application, students must also submit counselor and teacher recommendation letters.

The University of Michigan does not have a certain SAT/ACT score that will guarantee or prevent admission; however, the middle percentile of entering freshmen SAT scores range from 1940-2190 and ACT scores range from 28-32.

The application deadline for the University of Michigan is February 1, 2011, so juniors, you still have some time.

University of Texas at El Paso

The University of Texas at El Paso is part of the University of Texas system and offers a quality education for students interested in studying communications or any other degree.

The minimum SAT and/or ACT scores are determined by class rank. Students in the top 25% do not have to have a minimum score; students who rank in the second quarter need a minimum SAT score of 920 and a minimum ACT of 19. Third and fourth quarter students have a higher SAT/ACT score requirements.

UTEP also has a program called the UTEP Promise which covers all tuition and mandatory fees for four years for incoming freshmen with a family income of $30,000 or less.

The application deadline for UTEP is August 1st, however financial aid needs to be completed early.
