| Mrs.
Layton is a retired teacher with 35 years experience teaching
Spanish, English and ESL in Texas. She taught for 21 years at
Gunn Junior High and Arlington High School. |
| Events
|
- Each
year in the fall there is a "Back to School Night for
Hispanics" to acquaint Spanish-speaking parents with
the programs and procedures at AHS. This program is conducted
in Spanish.
- During
Hispanic Heritage Month, there is a program to honor outstanding
Hispanics in the Dallas/Fort Worth Metroplex. There is entertainment
and a reception following the program.
- During
second semenster there is an evening program given in Spanish
to explain to our Hispanic population what steps need to be
taken in order to graduate with 24 credits. Counselors are
present at this "Be a Grad" presentation, to give
parents further assistance with course selection for their
child.

- Translate
information for parents both in spoken and written form.
- Conference
with parents, teachers and administrators regarding school
requirements, testing programs, attendance and/or behavioral
issues and acceleration opportunities for students.
- Conduct
home visits as needed to involve parents in educational decision-making
for their child.
