Reception Honoring Mr. Darrell Sneed

Mr. Darrell Sneed, Principal was honored at a reception for his dedication to Bowie High School. Mr. Sneed is leaving Bowie to become the Associate Superindent of Secondary Education in Mansfield. Mr. Sneed has been principal at Bowie for 7 years and was instrumental moving Bowie to the next level of excellence. Under Mr. Sneed's guidance, Bowie became an IB and AVID school in addition to having athletics, fine arts and all areas of academics excel. Mr. Sneed mentored many interns, students, and teachers and was the guiding light that made Bowie High School a shining star. The Bowie Family wishes you the very best. (More Pics) |

The Phenix Center Dedication

Mr. Sneed presented a plaque of appreciation to retiring IB Coordinator, Christine Phenix. After being a part of Bowie's staff for 17 years, Mrs. Phenix has decided to retire and leave the IB program in the hands of Mrs. Ronda Lane. The IB Center was also dedicated to Mrs. Phenix and will now be called the Phenix Center. |

Congratulations to Mrs. Nanci Tyler who has taught in the Arlington Independent School District for 30 years and is still going strong. Mrs. Tyler was presented with several gifts by Mr. Darrell Sneed, Principal, for her long years of service. Mrs. Tyler is a social studies teacher and also served as the social studies department chair for many years. She started her teaching career at Lamar High School, then Carter Junior High and finally Bowie High School. Mrs. Tyler is an inspiration to all of us in the teaching profession. |
Open House Celebration
Bowie hosted an Open House Celebration during public school week in March. At the celebration, the previous principals were presented with a portrait, plaque and reception in their honor. The Jan Thomas Library Dedication: The Bowie Family is proud to dedicate the library to Ms. Jan Thomas, Bowie librarian. Ms. Thomas has been with AISD for 37 years and opened the Bowie library in 1991. She is a dedicated librarian, teacher, and friend. Ms. Thomas will be retiring in June to travel and enjoy her family and friends.
Teacher of the Year
 Congratulations to Mrs. Lynda Wood, Math teacher, for being selected by her peers as the Teacher of the Year for 2008. Mrs. Wood teaches Algebra I, AVID, and IB Math SL. Mrs. Wood works enthusiastically to educate her students and truly cares about kids. She is always excited to dress up for tacky day and spirit day to model pride and the importance of involvement at the school. Her peers view Mrs. Wood as "an extremely innovative teacher who guides students and fellow teachers." Mrs. Wood also contributes to Bowie as an IB and AVID instructor. The Bowie Family is proud to have Mrs. Wood as part of its team.
